COVID 19 INFORMATION FROM PARKS VICTORIA
18-09-2020 

In regional Victoria, you may take part in any normally allowed exercise or recreational activity, provided physical distancing limits of 1.5 metres are followed and in groups of no more than 10 people. 

You cannot enter an area in metropolitan Melbourne.

While exercising outside you should avoid sharing exercise or activity equipment and bring your own hand sanitizer and other hygiene supplies.


BUSHWALKS AT MOUNT BUFFALO

Only the Dixon's Falls and Back Wall walking tracks are still closed after the Bushfires early this year. These tracks are in the process of being repaired and having burnt bridges etc replaced and will be reopened a soon as is practical.

All other walking tracks are open

DINGO DELL CAFE OPEN WEEKENDS

Keith and Helen have advised that the Dingo Dell cafe will be open weekends 10 am to 5 pm for locals visiting the mountain to exercise or outdoor recreate

DINGO DELL CAFE CLOSED

Dingo Dell Cafe will is now closed due to the regional Victorian Covid 19 Stage three restrictions 

NO DOGS IN NATIONAL PARKS

 Many vehicles have been turned away from entering the Park due to dogs inside. Dogs are not allowed in national parks.


CHAINS MUST BE CARRIED
06-07-2020 

Chains must be carried until the next 4pm Change of Conditions email update. Please advise all visitors and friends that a sign at the park entry is displayed when chains are required.

Every vehicle, whether 2WD or 4WD entering the park past that point must carry chains if the sign is displayed. PARKS VICTORIA turned many vehicles away on the weekend as they were not carrying them.

TOILETS - LOOKOUTS AND PICNIC TABLES CLOSED

At the direction of the Chief Health Officer of Victoria, Parks Victoria has closed the following sites until further notice:

  • all playgrounds, BBQ facilities, water drinking fountains, picnic shelters and tables, rotundas, toilets and viewing platforms

CAMPING CLOSED AT MOUNT BUFFALO

Camping at Lake Catani and the Outstation camping areas is now closed for the duration of the Corona Virus emergency

ROCK CLIMBING IN FIRE EFFECTED AREAS

Rock climbing, abseiling and other cliff activities in fire effected areas such the horn and dream world is not allowed until assessments of these cliffs and access tracks are carried out by Parks Victoria working with the Crag Stewards program. Please respect this temporary ban.

Great news from Parks Victoria at Mount Buffalo

Good afternoon
We are pleased to announce that additional sections of the Mt Buffalo National Park have been re-opened for visitors. Access into the park will now be right through to the Horn picnic area car park. This has enabled the following areas to be reopened to the public:

Horn Track
Macs Point Track
Long Plain Track
Mt McLeod
Og Gog and Magog
Eagle Point
Reservoir Road
There are areas that still have restricted access until we can undertake further assessments and rehabilitation works – please refer to the attached map. These areas are:

Rocky Creek Track beyond Macs Point
Dicksons Falls
South Buffalo
The Backwall
Mollison’s Galleries

Over the coming weeks staff will continue the process of assessing fire damaged areas to determine what work is required to the make the areas safe again for visitors, to plan and implement stabilisation works to protect fragile alpine ecosystems and to repair damaged infrastructure such as bridges, signs and drainage.

DINGO DELL HOURS MARCH ONWARDS

The Dingo Dell Cafe will be open Fridays to Tuesdays from 6 March including the Victorian Labour day long weekend

TOTAL FIRE BANS

On days of severe or higher fire risk, emergency services may declare a Total Fire Ban where fires are banned. Check to ensure you are aware of the requirements for compliance on these days.

CODE RED FIRE DAYS

Note that Mount Buffalo (and all National Parks and Public Land will be closed on Code Red fire days and also may close at other times if the land managers and emergency services consider that the risk warrants this decision - be informed and check prior to leaving for the bush.

FIRE DANGER RATINGS

Ensure you keep informed of local heat and fire conditions and issues over summer- the ABC local radio is a good source of information and you should have the VIC Emergency App on your phone with updates for your area activated - take care in the outdoors or at home and check that your emergency plan is ready to go. Buffalo is 10 degrees cooler than in the valleys below.

GREAT SNOW AT MOUNT BUFFALO

We finally have great snow after four days of snow falls. The Parks Victoria rangers will be out grooming the cross country ski trails and toboggan runs - This week and next weekend will be an amazing time to Visit Mount Buffalo as a snow covered Winter Wonderland. (Check out the Dingo Dell snow cam as well)

CHAINS AT MOUNT BUFFALO

Chains must be carried to Mount Buffalo and fitted as directed until further notice (Normally all of August). Chains are required when there is snow forecast below 1600 metres and / or the roads have ice or snow cover - There are daily updates by Parks Victoria provided to ski hires etc and we provide detailed visitor snow and weather info on our Face Book page.

NEW RULES FOR BUS PARKING
15-04-2019 
Please be advised a new bus drop off / pick up point has been constructed at the Mount Buffalo Chalet for improved pedestrian safety

This is located out the front of the Chalet garden, opposite the entry to the Gorge Car Park. Please note there is now NO BUS PARKING in the Gorge Car Park. (Larger than 12 seater vehicles)

Access to the new bus drop off / pick up point can be reached by driving directly up towards the Chalet and utilising the Chalet Car Park as a turn-around point before dropping off or picking up guests.

For stops longer than 5 minutes, buses can park at the large space opposite the Parks Office on Mount Buffalo road (near the entry to the Monolith walking track).

Safety is paramount to Parks Victoria and thanks all licensees for their understanding.
