CATHEDRAL CLIMB

Join us for a rock climbing adventure to the second highest pinnacle on Mount Buffalo The awesome Cathedral.

CLIMBING THE CATHEDRAL VIA THE TOURIST ROUTE

PRICE

$1220 minimum fee for a group of up to 6 (Full day activity)

THE ASCENT

We drive in convoy to the Cathedral car park, sort out and issue ropes and equipment and then hike up the steps to the ridge between the cathedral and the hump.

After rigging up in rock climbing gear we scramble around to the rear of the pinnacle where we chimney up to a large ledge and then clamber around to the first pitch which is a bridging exercise. Once the team has completed this we then tackle the Crux which is a curved off width crack followed by a simple but exposed slab climb. (The hand holds cut by an early chalet guide are clearly evident) Note that your leader will have you securely belayed from above when on the climbs.

We then carefully make our way around to the northern side of the cathedral where we are faced by the final pitch which is either a 25 Metre slab climb, or a varied challenge up a wide corner crack. Once all are at the top of this climb we make our way to the highest point on the pinnacle where the view is magnificent.

THE DESCENT

Once we have rested we either abseil or down climb to a large ledge and then set up a twin rope abseil that will take us into the ravine between the two Cathedral pinnacles (Having just climbed the higher of the two ). We then clamber through the ravine to the top of the steps again and after having looked back to admire the heights of the pinnacle that we have just climbed, make our way back down to our vehicles again.

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY

This is a moderately hard activity but requires no previous climbing experience.
